A.L.C Festival 2021
Poster Design
When we were first introduced to the theme L.E.A.P I initially thought of leapfrog, but then after brainstorming and discussing with the class, the idea of leaping into the unknown and taking a leap of faith made a lot more sense. As a class, we decided on combining the physical leap and a leap of faith/leap into the unknown as our poster theme.
Once this theme was decided I instantaneously thought of clouds as what is beyond them is completely unknown to most people. I saw the bright clouds as the unknown and the unforeseeable future, and when talking about the clouds and the sky, when you are flying you never know whether it is going to be smooth sailing or whether there will be turbulence, it is a leap of faith.
Another unknown aspect of life is the future, and a big part of being a college student is thinking about the future and planning our lives out. We do not know where we will be in ten years from now, the decisions and courses we set for ourselves for the future are all a leap of faith and will lead us to the unknown.
I wanted to incorporate a physical leap as well, and when talking about physical leaps in class I automatically thought of Peter Pan when he is flying and leading the kids to Neverland. I chose a silhouette of a person flying because I wanted to emphasize the sky and the clouds, but also because diving head-first into the future could help you find yourself and change yourself for the better.
The silhouette is also holding both a paintbrush and a guitar to represent different forms of art.
I knew I wanted a bright sky, but I chose one that is both light and dark at the same time to show the many possibilities.
The font of the text was chosen because it is very bouncy and that to me showed movement which goes with the theme of the physical leap, and I chose bright colours to make it stand out a lot more and so the colours would not clash with the clouds.
